Bringing in the New Year!
What are some fun ways kids around the world celebrate New Year's Eve?
In Denmark, they stand up on chairs and then "leap into January" at midnight as they all jump to the ground.
After midnight in Scotland, they ring the doorbells of neighbors and offer well wishes for the new year.
In Puerto Rico, buckets of water are thrown out the window to help "clean out the old year." This follows the saying, "Out with the old, in with the new."
In Spain, 12 grapes are eaten at the stroke of midnight. For each chime of the clock, one of the grapes is devoured. This is to bring good luck for the next 12 months.
However you may celebrate this New Year's Eve, all of us here at the Emma Clark Library wish you a very happy and healthy new year.
